About a year and a half ago we went on vacation and since we were flying we decided not to take a pack n play. We went to visit our families up north and just didn't want to have to mess with it. Reagan could either sleep with us, or we would just put her on a pallet on the floor next to us. We thought it wouldn't be a big deal, she had never slept with us before, she was turning 2 and she had been sleeping through the night for a while so why not?
That month vacation of sleeping together turned into a year and a half of co-sleeping nights. Once we were back in Texas Reagan was sleeping in the same bed with me. (Darrin was either in Tijuana or here in the Dominican and I was pregnant with Grayson) Which was fine at the time. I knew once Grayson came, he would be in his own room since he would be up during the night and Reagan and I would have to be in the same bed.
I didn't push the issue too much. I knew, like everything else, it would pass. Then once we moved here in June she got her own room and we tried to switch up the routine. I would put her down in her bed, while Darrin put Grayson down. Once she was asleep I would sneak out. Sometime in the middle of the night she would call out for me and back into her room I went for the rest of the night. Sure I could have gotten back up again, but honestly, I was just to tired lazy.
It might sound crazy, but it was just our normal at the time. I could have made her cry it out (and a few nights out of frustration I did consider it) close the door, make her cry and scream until she realized I wasn't coming in, but I didn't. That's just not for me and I can't do it. I knew it would pass one day, so for the meantime I just embraced it and I snuggled up with my girl every night before bed and went in to be with her at night.
About 2 weeks ago I put Reagan to bed, came out watched some TV/played on the computer and like always, Darrin and I went to our bed. Only this time, I woke up the next morning and I was still in our bed. Holy moly, that was an amazing feeling. I actually slept through the entire night in one bed, our bed. Ever since then I have spent the entire night in our bed. I don't know what happened 2 weeks ago that made her start sleeping on her own and not calling out for me, but she is and I knew she would someday. I'm sure this won't be the end of me snuggling up with her in bed, but for now it is. And in no time, I will be asking her to come have slumber parties with me, in my bed and again love every second of it.
This is how much can change in a year and a half. My little girl is getting so big and I love her so much.
